Sai Pallavi as Maa Sita: Her Approach to the Character
Chapter Four · Her Approach to the Character
Sai Pallavi as Maa Sita
The public record leading to the first footage
What This Chapter Is About
If you have come from the Sita chapter, you already know the figure at the centre of the story. This chapter is about Sai Pallavi and the public record of her journey towards playing Maa Sita in Ramayana.
It follows what was officially announced, what Sai Pallavi said about the role, what Nitesh Tiwari and Namit Malhotra said about choosing her, and finally the moment when audiences saw her as Sita for the first time.
There is an important distinction here. Until the trailer, Sai Pallavi had been announced as Sita, but no official look of Sai Pallavi as Sita had been revealed. The photographs from public events were photographs of Sai Pallavi attending those events, not images from the film.
The first official visual reveal of Sai Pallavi as Maa Sita came with the trailer on 30 July 2026. This is therefore not a review of her performance. It is the public record leading up to that first footage.
3 July 2025: The First Title Reveal
The journey began publicly on 3 July 2025, when Ramayana was introduced through its first title reveal and the principal cast was announced. Sai Pallavi was announced as Sita. But the announcement did not reveal her look from the film.

On the same day, Sai Pallavi wrote on her X account:
She also shared the words: "Truly Blessed." These were her first public words about playing Sita after the official announcement.
There had been trade reports and speculation around the casting before this date, but the official public announcement came on 3 July 2025.
2 April 2026: The Rama Teaser
The next major release came on 2 April 2026, with the Rama teaser.
Original Rama teaser, 2 April 2026
The teaser gave audiences an early glimpse into the world of Ramayana and introduced more of Rama's side of the story. But Sai Pallavi's Sita was still not officially revealed on screen. There was no released film footage showing her as Sita at this point.
18 July 2026: Pratham Sankalp (First Resolve), New Delhi
The next major public moment came on 18 July 2026, at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. Pratham Sankalp brought together the cast and creative team and gave Sai Pallavi an opportunity to speak publicly about playing Sita.
This was important for another reason. Until this point, audiences knew Sai Pallavi had been cast as Sita, but they had not yet seen her actual film look. The photographs from the event were photographs of Sai Pallavi at Pratham Sankalp. They were not a first look from Ramayana.

Sai Pallavi on Playing Sita
At Pratham Sankalp, Sai Pallavi spoke about how she approached the role. She said:
She then explained what she would do while preparing:
These are Sai Pallavi's own words about her preparation. She did not describe Sita as a character that could simply be planned out on paper. Instead, she spoke about meditation, keeping her thoughts neutral and allowing herself to approach the role in that state of mind.

"Maybe Three Years"
Sai Pallavi also spoke about the amount of time she had spent working on the film. She said:
The phrase "maybe three years" is her own wording and should be understood as an approximate description of her involvement, not as an exact production date. She was also acknowledging the much longer journey of the team behind the project.
Why Nitesh Tiwari Chose Her
Director Nitesh Tiwari spoke about Sai Pallavi and Ranbir Kapoor and what he was looking for when choosing them for Sita and Rama. He said:
He then described what he said he saw in them:
These are Tiwari's words about the actors and the preparation he wanted from them. They are part of the filmmakers' public record, not a review of the finished film.

Namit Malhotra on the Audition
Namit Malhotra also spoke about Sai Pallavi's audition for Mother Sita. He said:
He continued:
These are Malhotra's words about the audition and what he says he saw in Sai Pallavi.

The Trailer That Almost Was: San Diego Comic-Con and the Sony Deal
The trailer did not simply appear on 30 July 2026. It was originally scheduled to go online worldwide on 24 July 2026, after the Delhi screening for select media at Pratham Sankalp and a panel at San Diego Comic-Con's Hall H, where director Nitesh Tiwari and producer Namit Malhotra appeared alongside Ranbir Kapoor and Yash to discuss the film's scale and visual ambition.
Just hours before that scheduled online release, Namit Malhotra announced a postponement. The reason he gave was a new partnership: Sony Pictures Entertainment had signed on as the film's global distribution partner for all territories outside India, with Dharma Productions continuing to handle the Indian market. Malhotra described the deal as reshaping the release itself, saying the plan was now to scale Ramayana alongside major Hollywood blockbusters so it could be shown to the world "like any major global Hollywood film."
The Comic-Con panel and screening for the crew went ahead as planned even as the online trailer was held back. In the days that followed, a new worldwide trailer date was announced: 30 July 2026.
30 July 2026: The First Look
Then came 30 July 2026. The worldwide Ramayana trailer was released at 4:15 a.m. IST, during Brahma Muhurat. And this was different from everything that had come before.
Until this point, Sai Pallavi had been announced as Sita. She had spoken about the role. Nitesh Tiwari had spoken about choosing her. Namit Malhotra had spoken about her audition. But the audience had not yet seen her as Sita in the film. The trailer changed that.
The trailer was the first official released footage of Sai Pallavi as Maa Sita and the first visual reveal of her Sita look. For the first time, audiences could see her in the character, in costume and within the world of Ramayana through actual footage from the film.
The distinction is important. The 3 July 2025 announcement told the world that Sai Pallavi was playing Sita. The 18 July 2026 event gave us her own words about how she approached Sita. But the 30 July 2026 trailer was the first time the audience could actually see Sai Pallavi as Maa Sita on screen.
Original Ramayana trailer, 30 July 2026
This is where this chapter ends. Not with a review. Not with a judgement about the complete performance. Not with a prediction. It ends at the first footage.
Before the trailer, Sita was something Sai Pallavi had spoken about and the filmmakers had spoken about. With the trailer, the audience finally saw her. Sai Pallavi as Maa Sita. The complete performance is still ahead.
