The Fight Against AI Abuse

AI generated, sexually explicit, non-consensual images are increasing day by day on social media. Today, with just a normal photo and a few clicks on certain apps or websites, anyone's image can be turned into vulgar AI edits. No technical knowledge is required.

This is not affecting only celebrities. Any girl or woman can become a target — a student sitting in a library, a girl in a cafe, someone posting a simple selfie, or even someone inside our own families.

This has reached such a level that just sending a photo and paying ₹10 or ₹15 is enough to have that photo converted into a deepfake edit.

The saddest and most disturbing part is that people send photos of their own mothers, sisters, or relatives — taken from inside their homes without their knowledge — and pay money to convert those photos into deepfake content. This shows how far perversion has reached. The purity of relationships which should be sacred is being trashed by a dangerous fraction of the upcoming generation.

"When we identified several admins behind such accounts, many were between 14 and 20 years old. This clearly shows how dangerously normalised this behaviour is becoming among very young people."

— SaiPallaviCanvas Investigation

If this trend continues unchecked, within a year or two it may become normalised, and we may end up with a generation where digital cruelty and disrespect become common behaviour. Human values are eroding. Many people say the solution is to ban social media in India — but even if platforms are banned, people can use VPN apps and proxy networks to access them, making it harder for authorities to trace criminals. This is why awareness and responsible behaviour from society are extremely important.

There is a big illegal business behind it. Platforms like Instagram are often just the entry point, attracting followers and directing them to private Telegram groups where fake images are sold via cryptocurrencies. Being a celebrity is not a licence for anyone to misuse her identity. Every person — celebrity or common citizen — has the right to dignity.
